Some would rather throw bombs than offer solutions. The fact is, the schools were just as imbalanced when Councilor Toomey was on the School Committee, and anyone could tell you that the achievement gap was just as large then as it is now. I know Councilor Toomey is sincere in his caring about the schools but it doesn't help when he tries to assert or suggest that we on the School Committee are not doing our jobs. As a Cambridge resident I am concerned about the lack of affordable housing in our city (which by the way, impacts the schools), but for me to suggest that Councilor Toomey or the City Council isn't working on it or "fooling around with the numbers" would be inappropriate.

I can say with confidence that there isn't a person on the School Committee or in the administration who isn't concerned about the imbalance in our schools. We are working to address it, but this problem didn't happen overnight and it won't be fixed overnight.
