The purchase of Shaw’s and Star Market back in March (Supervalu sold for  $3.3 billion and Cerberus bought, with the chains Albertsons, Acme and Jewel-Osco attached) hasn’t resulted in the miracle of rebirth one might have hoped for. Prices haven’t plummeted to Market Basket levels and management isn’t stocking the shelves with Trader Joe’s style. And there are still some absurdities.

Take the store’s octopus salad, for instance. Salads are typically – okay, always – a mix of things, and Star Market’s “tiny octopus salad” is octopus. And food coloring and vinegar and other ingredients that go into octopus, sure, but that ain’t salad.
