The Central Square Goodwill store reopened Oct. 10 with pretty much new everything – paint, floors, fixtures, layout and signs – but gets its grand opening today, with elected officials, fashion bloggers and the charity’s chief executive expected to attend.

No wonder the store needed a refresh: As a feature of Central Square since 1988, it’s one of the most popular in the state, said James Harder, director of communications for Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries. The store serves nearly 100,000 customers every year and accepts more than 22,000 donations.

The store closed Aug. 1 with an 85 percent-off sale to clear racks for the 10-week refurbishing, likely leaving plenty of pent-up demand. Some shoppers may not know the store is open again.

Today’s event starts with refreshments at 8:30 a.m., followed by a brief speaking program – including remarks from a store worker who is also from a Goodwill training program – and a ribbon cutting, Harder said.

And then, of course, comes the shopping.

Goodwill is at 520 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square. The store is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from noon to 6 p.m. Sundays. Call (617) 868-6330.
