Residents from the Riverside, Neighborhood 10, Neighborhood Nine, Agassiz and Mid-Cambridge neighborhoods, as well as members of the Harvard Square business community, are invited to express interest in serving on the Harvard Square Advisory Committee.

The city’s official description says the committee reviews all major development actions in the Harvard Square Overlay District; provides a forum for opinions on development actions; advises public agencies and private interests of development and urban design issues raised by a development or planning proposal; suggests research that might resolve conflicts and aims to make projects better fulfill the public and private objectives for the Harvard Square Overlay District.

The committee also reviews and comments on applications for variances and special permits in the district, according to the city’s description.

Members meet as required. Participation in previous Harvard Square planning activities and an understanding of development and design issues are desirable. Final selection of members will be made by City Manager Richard C. Rossi.

To apply, send a letter by Feb. 6 describing your interest and experience working on similar issues by mail to Elaine Thorne, Cambridge Community Development Department, 344 Broadway, Cambridge MA 02139; or send email here.
