From the Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership, Feb. 8, 2017: A free workshop on asbestos and fire safety open to all property owners and inspectors in Greater Boston is being presented Feb. 23 by a panel of experts from the Boston Public Health Commission and Boston Fire Department. Inspectors from the Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership, Boston Inspectional Services Department and Boston Housing Authority will also be in attendance.

Topics to be covered include: fire code regulations for smoke and carbon monoxide detectors; fire escapes and means of egress requirements; storage of flammables; emergency lighting requirements and exit signs; and asbestos – what it is, where it can be found in the home, the health issues related to it and how to go about mitigating its hazards.

The workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Local 51 Union Hall/New England Carpenters Training Hall, 750 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester. A breakfast of coffee and pastries will be provided.
