From the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce, Oct. 24, 2017: The Cambridge Chamber of Commerce’s 2017 Visionary Award ceremony, the chamber’s biggest event of the year, takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Royal Sonesta Hotel, 40 Edwin H. Land Blvd., East Cambridge.

The award celebrates innovators from the business, institutional and nonprofit communities making a difference in Cambridge and beyond. “The Visionary Awards are a way for the chamber to showcase some of the life-altering discoveries and dynamic collaborations that are happening right here in our backyard,” chamber president David Maher said.

The list of recipients include: Jennifer Brogdon and her team from Novartis for their collaboration in developing cutting-edge gene therapy in the fight against cancer; the research team from Microsoft and the Broad Institute of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard for using machine-learning techniques that allow for quick and effective use of the powerful and revolutionary gene editing tool CRISPR; the partnership between Harvard University Dining Services and the local nonprofit Food for Free establishing a sustainability effort that provides thousands of meals to families in need; LabCentral, for forming the first-of-its-kind-shared laboratory that serves as a launchpad for research and innovation for life sciences and biotech startups; Pyara Spa and Salon’s “Hello Gorgeous” program for fostering compassion and support for women facing the challenges of cancer by boosting morale and self-esteem; and Matignon High School for its dynamic strategic planning initiative focused on personalized education, mindfulness and meaningful partnerships with the local business and academic communities.

“The representation from both small and large businesses and nonprofit and academic awardees is a clear demonstration of the depth of impact our community is having every day,” said the chamber board chairman, Jay Kiely, of Forest City.
