Like other Kate Hamill literary adaptations, “Vanity Fair” is strikingly original but respectfully loyal to its source, offering audiences an unapologetically feminist perspective of early 19th century Britain told with biting humor and exceptional wit.

There are a lot of adjectives one could apply to this musical adaptation of “Moby-Dick,” but “boring” would not be one of them. Much of it works, but how well it works depends on your appetite for audience participation, juvenile humor and extended musical jams.

There’s a wonderful kinetic quality to this “Christmas Carol” – it’s always moving, and always has a rhythm for you to jump in step to. You feel like you can reach out and get ahold of it, in part because little attempt is made to hide the theatrical “magic” in the story.
