A 16-year-old male teen was shot dead Tuesday afternoon in a home at 14 Farragut Ave. in Somerville, near Matignon High School.

Somerville police, responding at around 5 p.m. to reports of a shooting, found the teen suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Mount Auburn Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

The teen was Tenzin Kunkhyen, of Malden, police said later. His identity was withheld until official identification was made by  the Office of the Medical Examiner, and until next-of-kin notification.

On his Facebook page, which by Wednesday was marked as being in remembrance of the teen, he identified himself as a Somerville resident expecting to graduate from Somerville High School in 2019.

The preliminary investigation suggested the victim “was in the residence with other people who were known to him,” said the press release from Marian T. Ryan’s office, “and that this is not a random act.”

The investigation is open and ongoing and being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police and Somerville Police, the press release said.
