From the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, on April 13, 2018: Construction on Beacon Street in Somerville between Washington Street and the Cambridge city line near Inman Square resumes April 17.

There will be one lane of traffic between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday; the direction of travel will alternate, with drivers signaled whether to drive or wait by signs, traffic control devices and message boards. Two-way traffic – with one lane of travel in each direction – will be maintained at all other times.

The state encourages drivers to reduce speed and use caution while traveling throughout the area and allow for extra time to reach their destinations. All work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.

This work is part of a $9.8 million roadway reconstruction project that began in spring 2016 and is expected to be finished by the end of the year; it includes full-depth roadway construction, excavation and placement of gravel and hot mix asphalt.
