As of Monday, the city advances with other communities statewide to Phase III, Step 2, of the coronavirus reopening plan, with limited exceptions: An emergency order issued by the city prohibits live musical performances at restaurants until further notice and delays the opening of indoor performance venues until March 22. before opening, indoor performance venues will need approval from the city’s Inspectional Services Department, according to a Friday email.

Effective Monday, indoor capacity limits rise to 50 percent, excluding employees, and restaurants will no longer have a percent capacity limit, though they will be required to continue to enforce 6-foot distance between tables, limit seating to six people per table, adhere to the maximum 90-minute time limit per table and require that food be served with alcohol orders. As a reminder, restaurant customers may remove masks only to eat and drink – they must stay on at all other times while seated at tables and when waitstaff are present at tables. Restaurants in Cambridge will not be permitted to host live musical performances.

Food court seating stays closed during this phase of reopening, the city said.

A “continued downward trend” in Covid-19 cases and a vaccination rollout justifies the loosening of restrictions, the city said. But “while the economy continues to reopen,” the public must keep on wearing masks, practicing social distancing, washing hands and limiting the size of gatherings with people outside their immediate household. Outdoor gatherings in backyards is still at a maximum of 25 people; gatherings inside homes is still capped at 10 people.
