Police were investigating reports of gunshots on Wednesday around River Street and Putnam Avenue, on the line between the Riverside and Cambridgeport neighborhoods.

Multiple shell casings were found by officers during a preliminary investigation after reports of gunfire were received shortly after 5 p.m., police said. There are no known victims.

This is the second gunfire incident of 2022 after a year following one Jan. 7 around School and Pine streets in The Port neighborhood. There were 14 incidents of the sort in 2021 – most not causing injury to people and nine taking place in The Port.
