This week AMC cinemas will open across the country with theatrically released-only titles such as “Unhinged” starring Russell Crowe as a sociopath. And the Crowe flick will play AMC Boston Common – but it won’t play this side of the river, as theaters from Harvard to Davis await a signal to open.
The strategy had been to release “The Hunt” as a horror film; now the curio is being spun as a satire-cum-horror, or something “unclassifiable,” and it’s hard to discuss it without giving away the real fun of the film: the twists, pitfalls and revelations that confront the people being hunted by … liberals.
Looking back at “Suicide Squad” in 2016, we pined for a vehicle that would bask in the glorious kitsch and kink of Margot Robbie’s infectious sociopathic supervillain, Harley Quinn. Well, here we are with “Birds of Prey,” and I’ll just say that sometimes one’s desires are best left unrealized.
