Permissive or Puritan?
Cambridge’s Licensing Commission found itself in the news this week. It moved quickly to set up districts for alcohol to-go and extended service hours after Gov. Healey eased restrictions for the duration of the World Cup. But at the same time it was circulating a draft of rules that among other things would require 30 minutes between drinks and would make last call earlier.
“Whiplash” is what one Cambridge bar and restaurant owner called it. The commissioners, who are not elected, said it was just a proposal. It also said it held two public hearings about the topic in June. Only, significant bar owners didn’t seem to know about these hearings.
