A Hess gas station won final approval two days earlier, replacing the legendary Gas with a Smile, at Massachusetts Avenue and Blake Street in Porter Square. No one at the Planning Board meeting opposed the application for a special permit, ending the battle with the Hessians with a whimper, not a bang; the plan initially caused much alarm.
