A special state election will be held June 25 to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of U.S. Sen. John F. Kerry.

In addition, voters in the ward and precinct combinations 2-2; 2-3; 5-1; 5-2; and 5-3 in the Cambridgeport and Area II/MIT neighborhoods will vote for a state representative to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Martha “Marty” Walz in the 8th Suffolk District.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Election Day.

For Cambridge residents not already registered, the last day to register to vote is June 5 until 8 p.m.

Absentee ballots are available at the Cambridge Election Commission office. Any voter unable to go to the polls on Election Day due to physical disability, religious belief or absence from the city may request an absentee ballot. The deadline to apply for one is noon June 24. Absentee ballots may be mailed to voters, or those voters may choose to vote at the commission office during regular city office hours.
