From the City of Cambridge, March 25: The city’s Council on Aging is holding a free Pre-Retirement Seminar from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Citywide Senior Center, 806 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square.

Three guest speakers will highlight important aspects of financial, legal and insurance issues related to retirement:

bullet-gray-small Curtis C. Jones, an assistant vice president at East Cambridge Savings Bank, will address finance-related issues and solutions to help reach goals.

bullet-gray-small Neal A. Winston, an attorney, will present on legal issues affecting seniors, including wills, health care proxy, power of attorney and other planning directives. Winston is the principal of Winston Law Group, specializing in elder law, special needs, public benefits and disability law. In 1975, he wrote the first edition of the “Social Security Manual for the Community Worker.”

bullet-gray-small The SHINE Program (Serving the Health Information Needs of Elders) is a statewide program that provides free health care information and assistance. Its counselors help Medicare beneficiaries of all ages compare health plan costs and benefits and file Medicare appeals or grievances. They can provide information and help applying for medical-expense assistance for people with limited income and resources.
