Who’s on? Hip Hatchet with Cowboy & Lady

For who? Fans of singer-songwriter lumbersexuals; fans of good old country duets.

When, where and for how much? 10 p.m. Wednesday at Atwood’s Tavern, 877 Cambridge St., East Cambridge. Tickets are $7 (or $8.24 with the online service fee).

Who are they? Philippe Bronchtein, of Portland, Ore., pulling from a variety of musical experiences including jazz piano, bluegrass, country, chamber music and the American singer-songwriter tradition. And Jess Powers and Tyler-James Kelly (of The Silks Music), of Providence, R.I.

Are they any good? The Source Weekly says Hip Hatchet is “a mix of rustic prairie and Romance poetics scribbled on glass-stained bar napkins. What makes Hip Hatchet immediately listenable is Bronchtein’s voice – a smooth mahogany baritone that sounds a bottle of whiskey deep with the honesty of a thousand Abe Lincolns.” The PR for Cowboy & Lady calls them “a sassy and sweet country duo” who “sound like they grew up down the road from June & Johnny.”

I want more: Hip Hatchet is here.
