The Central Square winter market known as Popportunity opens Saturday with participants including Cheapo Records, Mahogany Expression, the Cambridge artist and Graffiti Alley legend Merkaveli, the restaurant Cafe Barada and much more, said Nina Berg, creative director for the Business Improvement District.

Located at Starlight Square at 84 Bishop Allen Drive, Popportunity runs every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Dec. 20 with a farmers market-style circuit of 20 tents inside complemented by 15 new mini storefronts and galleries outside. Businesses with storefronts load in and fit out their spaces Friday for opening on Small Business Saturday – the national shop-local answer to the Black Friday shopping holiday.

Over the course of the winter market, there will be 60 participants including local retailers, artists, entrepreneurs and community members, Berg said.

Shoppers can look out for stands from Lola’s Urban Vintage; the Boston Institute for Nonprofit Journalism’s Pop-Up Newsstand, which will represent a number of local independent news outlets including DigBoston, El Mundo and Boston Compass; pop-ups by young Cambridge leaders and entrepreneurs including Starling Ink (Central Square Toy Drive), Elon Fyfield and Rose Schutzberg (Black Matters), Santos Carrasquillo (Filling in the Gaps Cambridge), Jordan George-Bellitti (Prexure), and Rehaan Anjaria (Rehaan Designs); returning Popportunity vendors Tokens of Light, The Breezes Pottery, True 9 Accessories, Soap Her Girl and B. Royal Boutique; and a Central Essentials tent with merch and gifts by the Central Square BID, Madhouse Motors and the Middle East.
