The Clarendon Avenue Playground in North Cambridge has reopened, the city said in a Feb. 4 email.

The park, which is on Massachusetts Avenue, features an improved entry plaza and seating area and now includes more variety of play opportunities with the addition of swings, a water table to accompany a relocated sand play area and “loose play materials to encourage creative play,” the city said. There’s also new furniture, a new rubberized surface and shade structure and more plantings. The $1.3 million renovation was paid for with a combination of Community Preservation Act funds and free cash.

The park improvements were guided by the city’s Healthy Parks and Playgrounds Initiative, which aims for play that is fun, physically challenging, creatively stimulating and socially engaging and that serve children and adults of all different age groups, ability levels and interests.
