Sunrise Cambridge rally is planned for Saturday seeking passage of a Green New Deal for the city
The Sunrise Cambridge youth climate activism group plans a 1 p.m. Saturday all-ages rally on Cambridge Common to create collaborative art and banners in support of the Green New Deal for Cambridge, a package of environmentally minded legislation that’s now before the City Council.
The package – reintroduced Feb. 7 by councillor Quinton Zondervan after a first attempt in the previous term – is “bold and necessary,” organizers said. The policies would incentivize net-zero emissions from new commercial developments and support green-jobs training for low-income and minority communities in Cambridge, they said, and “Sunrise Cambridge endorses this policy as key to building a sustainable future for all in Cambridge.”
The group can be found on Instagram.
Cambridge Common is near Harvard Square.
