Cambridge has set the time and date for its free 24th annual Dance Party: 6 to 10 p.m. June 28.

The kickoff to summer that began in 1996 and draws crowds of up to 30,000 people takes place in front of Cambridge City Hall. For the second year, it is accommodating the crowd by expanding its footprint to Prospect Street, organizers said in a June 7 email.

The ’90s-themed festivities will feature music spun by DJ Baby Indiglo, DJ Nomadik and DJ ReaL P. “As the sun sets, the atmosphere will be further enhanced by a stunning colorful light show, creating a magical ambiance that will captivate partygoers,” organizers said.

There will also be pop-up performances throughout the night, interactive activities and play activities on the Temple Street block organized by the City of Cambridge, City Manager’s Office, Cambridge Arts and the Central Square Business Improvement District.

Cambridge City Hall is at 795 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square, and accessible via the MBTA red line (through the line’s Kendall/MIT outbound stop will be closed after 8:45 p.m. on June 28). The No. 1 bus line is typically rerouted in Central Square at 5 p.m. when the street closes for the party, but the regular path resumes with full service at 11 p.m.
