Comcast is taking applications throughout the month of May from small businesses interested in grant packages as part of a program called Comcast Rise, the company said Tuesday.
One hundred small-business owners in Greater Boston will get packages including $5,000; a technology makeover, with computer equipment and Internet, voice and cybersecurity services provided for a year; creative production and media such as a professionally produced 30-second TV commercial and a media strategy consultation; education resources, including access to online entrepreneurship courses and resources for small-business owners; and business coaching sessions. Taxes and other fees may apply for some services.
The 500 grants will be announced in August for Boston, one of five regions across the country where the packages will be awarded with Grand Rapids, Michigan; Nashville, Tennessee; Seattle; and South Valley, Utah, the company said.
The program, meant to support entrepreneurial growth and invest in communities, has supported 14,000 entrepreneurs since its launch in 2020, the company said. “We all know how vital small businesses are to the Greater Boston economy,” said Carolyne Hannan, senior vice president of Comcast’s New England region.
One winner in the Boston area was the digital radio station Spark FM Online. “Comcast Rise was a foundational element of Spark FM,” said chief executive and founder Danielle Johnson in a press release. “The Comcast business services provided helped make it possible to connect with the audience we have today.”
