What is there to do when school’s out and you want to get away? For some of us, the answer was found in cabins and around campfires. Nova Comedy’s newest show takes us on that journey, in some ways via the tagline alone: “Welcome to Camp Camp: The Summer Camp of Summer Camps: One Hell of a Summer: We Will Never Die.” The sketch revue takes on the tropes and trappings of the summer camp horror movie, fleshing them out with the comedy these films accidentally tread into. Just as in any strong film in the genre, surprises await, but here it’s with musical guests, stand-up performers and callbacks to past summers in the woods. Nova prides itself on creating comedic experiences that are “unique, daring and authentic” and adds oddity and ominousness. This show may offer precisely the laughs needed if you’re missing this yearly rite of passage.
Nova Comedy’s “Welcome to Camp Camp” at 9:30 p.m. June 14 at The Rockwell, 255 Elm St., Davis Square, Somerville. $23 to $32.
