Cambridge Public Health Department Proposal to Rescind the Rules and Regulations for the Granting of Local Licenses to Practice Massage in the City of Cambridge
The Commissioner of Public Health for the City of Cambridge (Commissioner) promulgated Rules and Regulations after October 1995 and revised on November 1, 1999, with an effective date of January 1, 2000, pursuant to G.L. c.140, §51 and G.L. c. 111, §31, for the granting of licenses to practice massage in the City of Cambridge. Given that the Massachusetts Department of Public Health has the authority to regulate this sector, the Commissioner has determined that the conditions necessitating the regulation at the local level no longer exist, and that maintaining said regulation is no longer in the best interest of public health or necessary for the protection of the municipality. The Commissioner proposes rescinding said rules and regulations.
Public comments will be open for 21 (twenty-one) days after the first publishing of this notice, closing on August 15, 2025. Comments can be sent to Sam Lipson at slipson@cambridgepublichealth.org.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
The Planning Board of the City of Cambridge will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. held remotely (see below for instructions to participate) on a Zoning Petition by Cambridge City Council to amend the Cambridge Zoning Ordinance in Article 4.000 with the intent to Amend Section 4.60 to redefine short-term rental, add definitions for “operator-occupied short-term rental,” “owner-adjacent short-term rental” and “booking agent,” add conditions of authorized uses to comply with the state building code, fire code, sanitary code, and all other state and local habitability requirements, add requirements to provide booking information and other documentation to the City upon request, and add enforcement mechanisms for violation of the ordinance or state regulations.
