In โRoots and Routes,โ The Dance Complex explores the paths that brought us to the current dance scene. The two-day event features performances ranging from modern to hip-hop by more than 10 artists with an installation of movement, spoken histories and video recordings. It wraps up โDancing Through Time,โ a Mass Humanities-funded project revealing stories of the Complexโs history. โWe are all interwoven,โ executive artistic director Peter DiMuro said. โEven the most original among us is not original. We are handed down clothes, we are handed down mannerisms, we are handed down dances and our histories.โ After the performance Saturday, audience members are invited for a dance party with The Floorlords. โIf someone is afraid of dance or feels like they have no connection to it, this is the best program to come to,โ DiMuro said. โIt gives a background on how to stay connected and explores how dances are made. Itโs like a good box of chocolates with a little bit of everything in it.โย
โDancing Through Time: The Untold Stories of The Dance Complexโ at 8 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday at the The Dance Complex, 536 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square, Cambridge. $28.50
