To close out its Year of East Cambridge, History Cambridge plans a series of events to highlight the long and diverse history of the neighborhood at pop-up space at 625 Cambridge St. We welcome residents to contribute one or more items to a community exhibition featured in the space in December and early January.ย
Do you have an object, photograph, document or piece of art that represents what East Cambridge means to you? Whether itโs a clear and obvious historical artifact or a deeply personal memento, we want to see it โ weโre looking for materials that showcase what makes East Cambridge special. All are welcome to submit an item during the intake hours on Saturday and Sunday and to view the exhibition beginning Dec. 10.
In addition to the opening of the community exhibition, Dec. 10 features a program, โMayflower Memories,โ focusing on the iconic Mayflower Poultry business and the surrounding neighborhood. This event offers a unique opportunity to gather, connect and share as we celebrate the legacy of this cherished community landmark. The program takes place at the pop-up location โ the very building that housed Mayflower Poultry for decades, where we will have historical information and details about the building available to explore. We are especially honored to be joined by members of the Silver family, former longtime owners of the business, who will generously share their personal recollections and insights into operating Mayflower Poultry and their experiences in East Cambridge. We invite all attendees to contribute their own memories, stories and anecdotes about the business, Cambridge Street and the neighborhood to ensure these important community memories are documented for future generations.

History Cambridge hosts open house events at our Neighborhood History Center over Saturday and Sunday and the weekends of Dec. 13-14 and Dec. 20, all of which will give community members the opportunity to see the space, ask questions and contribute their East Cambridge stories. To wrap up our time in the neighborhood, we will hold a closing party Jan. 5 to which all are invited.ย
