A second man has been charged in the murder of Xavier Bautista, a Cambridge Department of Public Works employee who was murdered near Sennott Park in the early hours of July 4th this year. Giovani Arroyo, a 22-year-old from Boston, was arrested Thursday and arraigned in Cambridge District Court. Arroyo pled not guilty to charges of first-degree murder, carrying a firearm without a license, and conspiracy to commit murder. He will be held without bail.
Arroyo is the second person to be charged in connection to the murder. His alleged accomplice, Rayquon Brown, was arrested on the same charges, as well as on a charge of being an armed career criminal, on July 13. Brown is suspected to have been serving as a “lookout” in the crime.
At Thursday’s court hearing, prosecutor Caroline Evans said that while investigating Brown, they became aware of two other individuals who were involved in the murder, one of them being Arroyo. She added that investigators were able to identify Arroyo due to cell phone and video records, including text messages that were saved via iCloud. No information was offered about the other person involved.
Arroyo, who appeared in handcuffs at court today, did not speak during the hearing. His court-appointed attorney, Robin Gagne, represented him during the hearing. She did not offer comment to reporters following the hearing.
Arroyo’s next court date is scheduled for October 15.
