Competitive runners felt a little less welcome in Cambridge after a cap was set and some race-unfriendly rhetoric heard last year, but the city is expressing openness to a diverse set of runners – including at the Bionic5K, a disability-inclusive race planned for April 29.

Road races such as today’s Cambridge Half Marathon could become rarer, with City Manager Louis A. DePasquale saying the number of races is capped at 17 a year “and if we lose one of the 17, there will be a question of whether we let someone substitute in.”

The Simoni Memorial Ice Rink has announced its schedule for school vacation week, Dec. 24-Jan. 3, in a season that saw the Rink at The Charles Hotel in Harvard Square fail to open.

Red Bull has posted a highlights video from its High Stakes rowing competition, held Aug. 22 in the Charles River along Magazine Beach in Cambridgeport.

The four-day tournament – an Olympic style competition held annually since 1982 – starts Today and concludes with a medal round Sunday.
