Robert B. Parker

There will be a memorial service Monday for Robert B. Parker, the novelist who wrote his famed mysteries from a window desk in his Ash Street home. He died of a heart attack Jan. 18 at age 77.

The service will feature tributes by writers Sue Grafton, Dennis Lehane and Calvin Trillin, as well as by Parker’s family and others.

It is sponsored by the Gotlieb Library at Boston University, which holds Parker’s archives, Kate Mattes said Monday. Mattes became a friend of the novelist during her years running Kate’s Mystery Books outside Porter Square on Massachusetts Avenue. The specialty bookstore is defunct.

The event, including a display from the Parker archives, is at 5:30 p.m. in the Metcalf Ballroom of the George Sherman Student Union, 775 Commonwealth Ave., Boston. For information, call (617) 353-3696 or click here. A PDF of the event flier is here.
