Elementary and upper school students are invited to send poems for consideration in The Harvard Coop’s annual K–8 Poetry Contest, with a ceremony to be held at 2 p.m. May 4 in Harvard Square.

In addition to an announcement of the winners, there will be an open mic for contestants who want to read their poetry.

Poems will be judged in four grade ranges – kindergarten through first, second through third, fourth through fifth and sixth through eighth – and three winners in each age group will get gift cards and have their work displayed at The Coop. A complete anthology of entries will go on exhibit in the Children’s Department.

The prizes are $30 for first place, $20 for second or $10 for third.

Entries are needed by April 24 for consideration.

They must include the author’s name, grade, address and phone number. Entries can be dropped off at the store, e-mailed (with “Poetry Contest” in the subject line) to [email protected] or mailed to Poetry Contest, the Harvard Coop, 1400 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge, MA 02238.
