When I was in high school, it was unlikely the drama students could attract enough watchers into the auditorium — which, it’s true, was large — for two or three shows of a production, surely one of which must have been the gently revisionist fairy tale “Once Upon a Mattress.”

Yet Cambridge Rindge & Latin School has no less than four shows of the musical this weekend at the Somerville Theatre, 55 Davis Square.

So it’s probably pretty good.

For the uninitiated, the play is a jokey takeoff on “The Princess and the Pea,” and over the years has attracted talent such Carol Burnett, Elliott Gould and Sarah Jessica Parker.

“Once Upon a Mattress” shows Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

An earlier version of this story had listings for five showings.
