A man was stabbed in the abdomen during an early Sunday fight on Howard Street involving 50 to 60 people, police said Tuesday.

The victim was taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery and is listed in stable condition, police said.

It is believed that the fight — to which police responded at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday — and subsequent stabbing were the result of a large party at a home on Howard Street in Cambridgeport, about five blocks south of Massachusetts Avenue.

Police don’t believe the incident was random, meaning there should be no continued threat to public safety. An investigation is ongoing, though, and anyone with information is asked to call police at (617) 349-3300.
