A series of film screenings called Cambridge Nights, featuring professionally projected shorts made by locals, begins Sunday. The series is to take place the first Sunday of each month.

Inman Square filmmaker Mick Cusimano said his “Mermaids of Atlantis” is getting its Cambridge premier at the event, along with “Wish Monkey” and “Parawave” by Kent Thompson and others by Kevin Anderton. Attendees are invited to bring their own short videos for screening.

Cusimano filmed “Mermaids” in 2009, including a scene at Inman’s Ryles jazz club.

Cambridge Nights begins at 7 p.m. at the Outpost 186 gallery, 186 Hampshire St., Inman Square. There’s a $3 suggested cover.
