020813fi-Carl-SciortinoFrom the Carl Sciortino campaign, July 22: At a Saturday rally at his Medford headquarters joined by 60 supporters, state Rep. Carl Sciortino was formally endorsed by Medford Mayor Mike McGlynn in his bid to replace U.S. Sen. Ed Markey.

“It is with a great deal of pleasure that I endorse Carl Sciortino for United States Congress,” McGlynn said. “We need a leader like Carl who can change the conversation in Washington and fight for our community and for all of our families. I’ve had the great pleasure of fighting side by side with Carl, and he will be a great champion for the people of this district.”

Sciortino said those battles were part of “getting through the worst recession since the great depression.”

“There are people in Washington who have a different value set – they are fighting against action on climate change, against preserving Social Security for another generation and don’t view government as a vehicle for collective progress, but as the problem,” Sciortino said. “I’m running for Congress to change the conversation and stand up for progressive values in Washington.”
