Benzan campaign for City Council gets endorsements from two union locals
From the Dennis Benzan campaign, Sept. 18: The Service Employees International Union Local 888 and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen have endorsed local attorney and City Council candidate Dennis A. Benzan.
“His commitment to the underserved and his mind for social justice, coupled with his support of working-class people, make him an excellent choice for SEIU Local 888. We are happy to support him,” said Dan Hoffer, political director for Local 888.
John Tolman, vice president and national legislative representative for BLET, said, “I believe Dennis will honor his commitments to create jobs, support our most vulnerable citizens, modernize transportation infrastructure and develop policies to support the health and well-being of the people of Cambridge.”
The Carpenters Union Local 40 has also endorsed Benzan.
The candidate gave this statement:
I am proud to receive the endorsement of both SEIU Local 888 and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen because I strongly believe that all workers, no matter their industry, deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Recently, the SEIU joined thousands of fast-food workers in Boston as they organized a strike to urge their fast-food employers raise its wages and secure an employee’s right to unionize. I stand with working families as they fight to improve their lives, because families cannot raise their children or send their kids to college on $8 an hour.
