Area Four pizza and Toscaniniโ€™s ice cream
Area Four pizza and Toscaniniโ€™s ice cream will feed participants at the Thursday open house.

Get involved with local media at a Cambridge Day open house from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Central Square.

Cambridge Day has been posting news and information for Cambridge (and to a much lesser degree, Somerville) more or less daily since the fall of 2009, and for much of that time has been essentially a one-person operation. There have been contributors along the way, and recently a talented crew of people have provided the city with extra insight on issues of education, development, housing and health and on the wealth of cinema opportunities.

This is a chance to join in and help build a community-based site, shaping Cambridge Day into anything bigger and better, more diverse and representative of more points of view.

Come for an open house and Q&A with the founder and editor while enjoying pizza from Area Four and ice cream from Toscaniniโ€™s. Explore how you can become more involved in the community via this local news medium, whether by writing news or features, editing, taking photos, programming, grant-writing or selling ads.

Additionally, this past summer and into the fall, Cambridge Day supported a weekly celebration of free speech in Harvard Square called Speakersโ€™ Circle. Volunteers are also sought with organizational or grant-writing skills that could support that project when it returns in the spring.

The Cambridge Day Open House is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Out of the Blue Art Gallery Too, 541 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square. For information, call (617) 230-9632 or send email here.
