From the Jan Devereux campaign, April 30, 2017: City Councillor Jan Devereux will hold her reelection campaign kickoff event from 3 to 5 p.m. May 7 at the Cambridge, 1 restaurant, 27 Church St., Harvard Square. The date marks six months until the Nov. 7 municipal elections for City Council and School Committee. The event is free and open to all.

“I chose this venue to highlight the work I have been doing this term to support local businesses in Harvard Square and elsewhere, as they face rising rents and competition from chains and online merchants,” Devereux said. “Church Street especially has been hard hit since the Harvard Square Theatre closed in 2012, and nearby restaurants and stores have suffered from the decrease in foot traffic. The location also gives a nod to my commitment to historic preservation and adaptive reuse, since the restaurant is housed in what was the city’s first fire station.”

The Sunday Devereux for Council event coincides with the 34th annual May Fair in Harvard Square, which runs from noon to 6 p.m. and fills the square with food and craft vendors, musicians and performers, and a host of activities for all ages.
