Kendall Square post office closes June 14, relocating because of MIT reconstruction
Operations at the Kendall Square post office, 238 Main St., will end June 14 “until further notice” because its building is part of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s East Campus renovations, but will return to the square afterward – maybe into the same building.
“Moving back in there is certainly an option,” said Steve Doherty, strategic communications specialist for the U.S. Postal Service’s Northeast Area.
People worry when they see a post office close, but there has been no decision to permanently end operations in Kendall Square, Doherty said.
Current post office box customers in Kendall Square can get their mail at the Central Square Post Office, 770 Massachusetts Ave.
Service is also available at the post offices in East Cambridge (0.6 miles away) at 303 Cambridge St. and (0.7 miles away) and at 136 Charles St. in Inman Square (1.1 miles away) at 1311 Cambridge St.
