The Magazine Beach pool is set to close Sunday, the Magazine Beach Partners organization said, for reasons that will be familiar: Though the organization and neighbors asked the state Department of Conservation and Recreation to extend the date, officials said it was impossible because its lifeguards need to return to school, meaning there will be no staff to watch over swimmers. “It’s extraordinary that DCR was able to open the pool this summer and as amazing that everyone has remained healthy,” organization president Cathie Zusy said Saturday.

The pool is open 11:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. A spray deck on Magazine Beach stays open through Sept. 27.

In addition, the park expects to host six Carol Faulkner-led yoga sessions for up to 50 people between Sept. 10 and Oct. 15. Magazine Beach Partners says it also continues to ask for trash cans and more trees for the park, which reopened fully in late July after years of renovation. “It looks like Cambridge will plant 10 new trees in the fall,” Zusy says.
