City manager review prep

Patriot’s Day: Horse and Humvee

Patriot’s Day observance, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday. Historian Vincent Dixon gives a brief history of William Dawes’ midnight ride – highlighted by a reenactment of that historic horseback ride from Boston to Cambridge alerting the colonists of the British threat of 1775. (The Massachusetts Army National Guard unit 181 Infantry Battalion brings a Humvee display to this event, presumably because the Humvee is today’s Army horse.) Charles Sullivan, executive director of the Cambridge Historical Commission, gives a keynote address and vocalist Lorraine Victoria Kanyike performs the national anthem. The event includes treats from Cookie Monstah and Espresso Dave’s coffee. Free at Cambridge Common, near Harvard Square.
