Jason Cordova headlines Popcorn Comedy on Thursday in Somerville. (Photo: Jason Cordova via social media)

Popcorn Comedy sits at the precise intersection of two of my greatest interests: live comedy and movie theater popcorn. Local comics Jason Fishman (Portland Maine Comedy Festival) and Peter Liu (Boston Comedy Festival) have created a cozy and collegial space for the two to coexist by presenting live comedy at Davis Square’s Somerville Theater microcinema – and, in a recent expansion, to Arlington’s Capitol Theater. Set aside your expectations for a two dimensional experience, but even if the jokes may not be movie-themed, you’re likely to see more than a little theatrical delivery. This month’s edition returns the show to its Davis Square roots and will be headlined by Jason Cordova (Don’t Tell Comedy, HBO). Cordova will be joined “onscreen” by a supporting slate including Kate Molloy, Sam Mangano, Maddie Kelly and Davey P. Classic cartoons precede the show for early comers (but there’s no newsreel).

Popcorn Comedy, 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Somerville Theatre, 55 Davis Square. $20
