Jason Cordova headlines Popcorn Comedy on Thursday in Somerville. (Photo: Jason Cordova via social media)

Popcorn Comedy sits at the precise intersection of two of my greatest interests: live comedy and movie theater popcorn. Local comics Jason Fishman (Portland Maine Comedy Festival) and Peter Liu (Boston Comedy Festival) have created a cozy and collegial space for the two to coexist by presenting live comedy at Davis Squareโ€™s Somerville Theater microcinema โ€“ and, in a recent expansion, to Arlingtonโ€™s Capitol Theater. Set aside your expectations for a two dimensional experience, but even if the jokes may not be movie-themed, youโ€™re likely to see more than a little theatrical delivery. This monthโ€™s edition returns the show to its Davis Square roots and will be headlined by Jason Cordova (Donโ€™t Tell Comedy, HBO). Cordova will be joined โ€œonscreenโ€ by a supporting slate including Kate Molloy, Sam Mangano, Maddie Kelly and Davey P. Classic cartoons precede the show for early comers (but thereโ€™s no newsreel).

Popcorn Comedy, 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Somerville Theatre, 55 Davis Square. $20
