A debate between 27th Middlesex District state Rep. Erika Uyterhoeven and challenger for the seat Kathleen Hornby is set for 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium of the John F. Kennedy School, 5 Cherry St., Spring Hill, Somerville. They are competing for the Democratic Party nomination for state representative in the district, which is contained entirely within Somerville.

โ€œAll are welcome to join this event to hear from the candidates seeking to represent Somerville on Beacon Hill,โ€ said a Somerville Democratic City Committee press release from chair Jack Perenick. โ€œAs there is no independent or Republican candidate on the ballot in this race, the winner of the primary will run unopposed in November.โ€

A briefย reception and refreshments will be provided starting at 6:30 pm. Register for the debate here.

Uyterhoeven took the seat in 2020 when Denise Provost retired, winning a primary with 62 percent of votes against Catia Sharp โ€“ or 8,943 ballots to 5,494, according to the Somerville Election Commission โ€“ to run unopposed in a general election.
