A debate between 27th Middlesex District state Rep. Erika Uyterhoeven and challenger for the seat Kathleen Hornby is set for 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium of the John F. Kennedy School, 5 Cherry St., Spring Hill, Somerville. They are competing for the Democratic Party nomination for state representative in the district, which is contained entirely within Somerville.

“All are welcome to join this event to hear from the candidates seeking to represent Somerville on Beacon Hill,” said a Somerville Democratic City Committee press release from chair Jack Perenick. “As there is no independent or Republican candidate on the ballot in this race, the winner of the primary will run unopposed in November.”

A brief reception and refreshments will be provided starting at 6:30 pm. Register for the debate here.

Uyterhoeven took the seat in 2020 when Denise Provost retired, winning a primary with 62 percent of votes against Catia Sharp – or 8,943 ballots to 5,494, according to the Somerville Election Commission – to run unopposed in a general election.
