Get ready – the circus is coming to town. Bow Market’s Circus Extravaganza will take over the Union Square centerpiece all day Saturday. And what is a circus without a sideshow? It was with that question in mind that burlesque artist Shari Caplan and comedian Kaitlin Buckley teamed up to present Circus Luminous, an after-hours variety show to captivate the adults after a day of all-ages fun. Yes, the event will feature comedy from Buckley as well as Boston Comedy Festival finalist Maria Palombi, but it will also feature burlesque, drag, music and poetry. It might seem like a stretch for those more accustomed to a traditional comedy show, but Buckley welcomes the challenge of bringing in those audience members skeptical of the format (more on this in “Circus Luminous Aims to Marry the Silly and the Sultry,” Aug. 22). After all, these art forms “grew up together” in the vaudeville era, so it feels fitting they’ll appear alongside one another again to “surprise, delight and entertain” folks on Bow Market’s second level.
