You might find yourself in need of a laugh – or a way to slip out of the room – around the Thanksgiving holiday. We’ve collected a number of shows designed to get you out of the house, help you burn off the casserole calories and above all make you laugh.

Wednesday, Nov. 27

  • Goofs Comedy Club hosts its first Friendsgiving Goofs in a new East Somerville location featuring signature $4 drinks and a much smaller – but also tasty! – menu than the coming holiday typically offers.
  • The Comedy Studio presents local headliner Jason Cordova (Max, Don’t Tell) as part of its TCS Presents series. Cordova is a staple of the local scene, but has a clearly rising national profile. When you gather the following day, you’ll want to tell friends and family all about who you saw.

Thursday, Nov. 28

  • Not a Thanksgiving football fan? Glue Factory Comedy holds its Thursday Office Hours show at 8 p.m. – so named for host Jeremy Pearson’s professorial day job – at The Comedy Studio.

Friday, Nov. 29

  • The Nova Comedy Collective’s inaugural resident cast continues this season’s run with Nebula Night at Arts at the Armory, a blend of sketch and improv that promises to be a better investment than whatever you were planning to buy for Black Friday. (Masks are required for this performance.)
  • If your Black Friday purchases included new clothes, The Comedy Studio’s Sweater Comedy may be the place for them to make a debut. Don fresh duds to hear fresh jokes from up-and-coming locals at a show hosted by Marc-Anthony Lewis of Providence.
  • Feeling bad about the money you spent on Black Friday? Send yourself to “Detention” on Friday or Saturday at Goofs. The club’s signature weekend shows at 8 and 10 p.m. both nights feature a mix of area performers and visiting headliners. You never know who will swing through while they’re home for the holidays.

Saturday, Nov. 30

  • If you’re looking to try your hand at comedy (or spend an afternoon out of the house after a few days cooped up), Nova Comedy hosts its weekly improv gym at Kendall Square’s The Foundry. No experience necessary.
  • To watch improv rather than take part, hit Union Comedy. In addition to Friday and Saturday weekend shows, it presents “The Pickle,” taking the stories of the night’s monologist and turning them into comedy (and giving someone in the audience a free jar of pickles to help spice up holiday leftovers).
  • In addition to the Goofs doubleheader, you can also catch two shows at The Comedy Studio: 8 p.m. is the weekly Comedy Gold show; at 10 p.m., the monthly “It’s a Date” show helps a few lucky audience members find someone to match holiday PJs with.

Tickets for most shows are on the websites for Goofs, The Comedy Studio and Union Comedy.
