In a year in which Hanukkah has an uncharacteristic overlap with Christmas, it may be easy to feel like the Festival of Lights is being overlooked. A new event at the Rockwell turns it into a Festival of Laughs with a “L’Chaim Laugh Fest.” This one-day showcase is meant to invoke the spirit of the name itself, organizer Natalie Rose said: “‘L’chaim’ is a traditional Jewish toast that means ‘to life.’ It’s used to celebrate life’s blessings, and I wanted to bring that same spirit of celebration to the comedy stage.” The festival falls on the last night of Hanukkah – Jan. 2 – and offers an opportunity to carry this feeling of light and optimism into a new year that might already feel a little daunting. Rose recognizes this, and encourages Jews and non-Jews alike to “join us in community to enjoy a night of laughter and celebration.” (This isn’t the only Jewish-themed comedy this season: A “Chosen Show” is 8 p.m. Christmas Eve at The Comedy Studio, 5 John F. Kennedy St., Harvard Square, Cambridge, with Chinese food available.)

“L’Chaim Laugh Fest” at 7 to 8 p.m. Jan. 2 at The Rockwell, 255 Elm St., Davis Square, Somerville. $10 to $15.
