
The Cambridge Rindge and Latin School boys’ soccer team improved to 3-1-1 with a 1-0 upset at Danehy Park against Concord-Carlisle, ranked fifth in Eastern Massachusetts by The Boston Globe at the time,Thursday. The lone goal was scored by captain Michael Brown, with an assist from Shiferaw Jida Sesia. The Falcons are in first place in the Dual County League.
Girls’ soccer: After losing its first two games of the season last week, the CRLS girls’ soccer team returned to form Sept. 15 with a 2-0 defeat of Methuen. Both goals were scored by Mariye Demissie, with assists coming from Cece Lubetsky and Malena Alvarez Saavedra. Goalkeeper Fio Eddy smothered two Methuen breakaways to keep them scoreless and help the Falcons improve to 5-2 on the season.
They lost Sept. 16 to Boston Latin, 2-1, with Cambridge’s goal coming from Cailin Beckman, assisted by Helena Demissie. On Thursday, CRLS lost 2-0 to Concord-Carlisle. The Falcons gave up two early goals, then held Concord-Carlisle scoreless for 70 minutes.
Football: The CRLS football team defeated Belmont, 9-6, on Friday to improve to 2-1. The offense was led by Paul Dottin, who ran for 143 yards on 16 carries. Quarterback Joseph Derege had a hand in all of Cambridge’s scoring, throwing a touchdown pass to Jovens Exilhomme and kicking a field goal.
On defense, many Falcons contributed. Dottin had four tackles, a forced fumble and a recovery. Lucas Diaz had five tackles (four for a loss), one and a half sacks and a forced fumble. Kelvin Ferreira had six tackles (four for a loss), half a sack and a forced fumble. Derege had an interception and two sacks.
In other action, the girls’ volleyball team lost its only match, to Concord-Carlisle, 3-1.
