A snow emergency parking ban will start at 9 a.m. Sunday, according to an announcement by the City of Cambridge Saturday afternoon. On Saturday evening the City of Somerville declared a ban starting at noon Sunday.

The National Weather Service issued a storm warning with possible blizzard conditions from 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon until 7 a.m. Tuesday morning. Accumulations were projected to be between 12 and 24 inches.
In Cambridge, vehicles that are parked on streets with No Parking During Snow Emergency signs will be ticketed and towed until the ban is removed.
The city will provide free parking at off-street facilities starting at 6 a.m. Sunday. Those facilities are listed at www.CambridgeMA.GOV/Snow. Parking is only available to residents with Resident Parking Permits from Cambridgeโs Department of Transportation. Cars must be removed from these facilities no more than two hours after the parking ban is lifted.
In Somerville residents will need to move their cars to the odd-numbered side of the street within four hours of the emergency being declared, guidance that reflects this being the 2025/26 winter. They can also park in city-owned lots, excluding school lots.
Once the snow emergency ends, residents need to move their vehicles within two hours to avoid a fine. Meters will be free during the emergency.
Cambridge noted in a statement that more than 300 vehicles were ticketed and/or towed during the major snowstorm in late January. It said it will announce service or program impacts on Sunday, February 22.
