Ben Ewen-Campen and Olivia Gilligan-Corsetti are running in the 27th Middlesex District race for state senate.

The first local race has been declared, with Ben Ewen-Campen projected to win his race to represent the 27th Middlesex District in the State House. There is no Republican candidate so the primary race effectively decides who will be the victor.

Though less than 6 percent of votes are reported, the Associated Press declared Ewen-Campen, a current Somerville city councilor, the victor. As of 9:13 p.m. he is leading Olivia Gilligan-Corsetti by 7,116 votes to 3,068 votes, meaning Ewen-Campen has almost 70 percent of the vote.

The AP also projects Sen. Ed Markey will defeat Rep. Seth Moulton to claim the Democratic nomination for Senator.
