It’s true that Snack did an empanada two weeks ago, but what about people left with unresolved cravings who can’t get to Che! in Cambridgeport? North Cambridge’s gourmet farm stand sells empanadas and calzones – $7.50 vegetarian or $8 with meat for breakfast until 11 a.m. and $8.50 or $9 in lunch versions until 3 p.m. The selection ranges from a Mexican beef to a Greek featuring artichoke and red pepper. On the advice of staff, I went with the Mexican Stewed Chicken, which is served with sides of sour cream and a chunky pico de gallo. The crust was flaky and the chicken inside still hot from a lamp. It also left behind a pleasant burn of spice – perfect for a 15-degree day. The third heat is what a substantial snack it is: a hand pie bigger than your hand. Next for me? The Chicken Bacon Ranch.
