I
t stands to reason that Sean Patton, gaining recognition and acclaim for his breakout role as Markie Hillridge on the FX television series “English Teacher,” would draw a comedy club show called “Detention.” Who among us hasn’t been told to hush by a guy in a windbreaker and whistle? But don’t expect him to bring his character’s cocky alpha energy to the stage. The New Orleans native’s specials such as “Scuttlebutt” and “Number One” (Michael Che of “SNL” is an executive producer) skillfully, as he puts it, “celebrate the beauty of human flaws … specifically my own.” Patton spent years as a reliable mainstay at comedy clubs and festivals around the country before “English Teacher,” crafting sharp bits on topics such as his OCD, weight and the pain of heartbreak. He’ll seem far more at home with the misfits than the meatheads, and you’ll gain cool points for getting to see him ahead of the series’ Season 2.
